Why Every Worldview Collapses Without Christ at the Centre

Church
We’re surrounded by people chasing meaning, whether it’s through the next overseas holiday, building a career, or collecting life experiences. These things are good, but Pastor Rob Martin from All Nations Congregation in Victoria reckons they’re not enough to hold life together. Without Jesus at the centre, he says, it all eventually feels empty.
That’s the big idea behind the upcoming Ideas Convention in Belgrave Heights: helping everyday Aussies see that only Jesus offers lasting hope, purpose, and joy. As Colossians 1:17 puts it, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
The Meaning Crisis We Can’t Ignore

Rob’s seen it in his own life and in our culture – when you take God out of the picture, you lose a sense of deeper meaning. People might fill the gap with material comforts or good times, but it’s like chasing waves at the beach – fun for a moment, gone the next.

The Bible points to this reality in Ecclesiastes 1:2, “Meaningless! Meaningless! … Everything is meaningless.” Without Christ, even the best life experiences have an expiry date. That’s why Rob’s so passionate about apologetics – helping people see that the Christian faith isn’t just nice, it’s true, reasonable, and worth staking your life on.

Big Ideas, Real Conversations

The Ideas Convention is designed for both believers and seekers. You won’t just hear lectures—you’ll get fresh perspectives, practical tools, and honest conversations about why anything but Jesus eventually fails.

Rob explains it’s not about bagging out other worldviews, but showing the limits of materialism, hedonism, and career-driven identity. Then, side-by-side, showing the hope and meaning Jesus brings. As Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Why It’s Worth Your Time (and Your Mate’s)

You’ll hear from top thinkers like Justin Brierley, Sean McDowell, Vishal Mangalwadi, and Mary Jo Sharp – each bringing a unique take on why Jesus is the answer. Whether you’re a Christian wanting more confidence to share your faith, or a seeker wondering if there’s more to life, you’ll find something here.

Rob’s advice? Come with your questions, and bring along that friend who’s been wrestling with purpose. This isn’t about pressure – just a safe space to explore life’s biggest questions.

The Bottom Line

Every worldview promises something – freedom, fulfilment, purpose – but only Jesus delivers on all counts. When we start with Him, life gains a depth and richness that doesn’t fade with the next trend or trip. Or as John 1:4 says, “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”

Holidays end. Possessions wear out. Careers change. But Jesus? He never fails.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

If you’ve got friends asking big questions – or you’re asking them yourself – this might be the weekend that gives you the clarity and courage to say, “Yeah, Jesus really is the answer.”
