Kade Klemke on How Sports Can Become a Platform For the Gospel

In this episode of the Win Win Evangelism Podcast, Tina Waldrom talks with former Essendon Bomber and accomplished player-coach Kade Klemke, now serving with 360 Sports Australia in partnership with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Kade brings a wealth of experience from grassroots clubs to professional teams, sharing how sport can be a unique and powerful platform for the gospel. Together, Tina and Kade explore how coaches and athletes alike can bring their faith into the sporting world, living out evangelism and apologetics in everyday interactions on and off the field.
From stories of young players whose lives have been changed through simple acts of care, to insights on how churches can step outside their walls and embrace the sporting community, this conversation will inspire you to see sport as a mission field. Whether you’re a coach, a parent, or simply someone who loves the game, you’ll discover how evangelism and apologetics can come alive in the very spaces where people gather, compete, and belong.

Discussion Questions

1. How does seeing sport as a mission field change the way you participate in or support sporting activities?

Read: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15)

2. Kade spoke about valuing the person before the player. How does this principle reflect Jesus’ heart, and how might you apply it in your own relationships?

Read: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 7:12)

3. What does it mean to coach, play, or serve from a ‘kingdom perspective’ rather than a worldly one? How would this look in practice?

Read:  “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” (Colossians 3:23)

4. Kade described how coaches and athletes can influence many lives. Where has God placed you in a position of influence, and how could you use it for His kingdom?

Read: “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others.” (Matthew 5:14–16)

5. Fear-driven coaching often pushes people away. How can love-driven leadership, whether in sport, work, or family draw others closer to Christ?

Read: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.” (1 John 4:18)

6. What opportunities might you have to bring the gospel into the passions and interests God has given you?

Read: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” (1 Peter 4:10)

7. Kade shared that some people are more open to Bible study in small groups than attending a church service. How might this challenge or inspire the way you invite people to explore faith?

Read: “Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news.” (Acts 5:42)
