It’s a new year, and with it comes fresh opportunities to share Jesus with the people around us. But let’s be honest—sometimes, it feels like a massive task. And if you want to have a 2025 evangelism challenge, where do we even start?
That’s why this simple Christian call to action, “Reaching Five in 2025,” is so practical. It’s all about focusing on just five people in your life—friends, family, colleagues, or even your barista—who don’t yet know Jesus.
Here’s how you can be intentional about it this year.
1. Pray and Pick Your Five
Start by asking God to show you five people He’s placed in your life who need to hear about Jesus. Write their names down—on your bathroom mirror, in your notes app, or even as a reminder on your phone.
Then, commit to praying for them regularly. Some people like to pray for one person each day, while others weave it into their routine, like while driving or during their morning coffee. However you do it, pray for open doors and meaningful conversations. “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” (Colossians 4:2)
2. Build Genuine Connections
Evangelism isn’t about pushing religion; it’s about relationships. Make an effort to connect with each of your five at least once a month.
Now, before you stress about adding another “task” to your life, remember this could be as simple as a text message, a quick phone call, or grabbing a coffee together. Small, consistent interactions build trust, and trust opens the door for deeper conversations down the track. “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (Colossians 4:6)
3. Show Kindness in Practical Ways
Faith isn’t just about words—it’s about action. Look for ways to serve and encourage your five in everyday life. Maybe that’s helping a mate move house, dropping off a coffee for a stressed colleague, or offering to babysit for a single parent who desperately needs a break.
Even the smallest gestures can speak volumes about God’s love. And often, these acts of kindness lead to opportunities to share your faith naturally. “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:18)
4. Share Your Story, Naturally
You don’t need some dramatic “before and after” testimony to share Jesus. Just be real. Think about moments where God has brought you peace, direction, or strength, and share that in everyday conversations.
It could be as simple as, “You know, when I was struggling with that decision, I prayed about it, and I felt this incredible peace.” People connect with authenticity, not perfection, so don’t feel like you have to have it all together. “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15)
5. Invite Them to Explore More
At the right time, create space for deeper conversations. This doesn’t always mean dragging someone to church (though it might!). It could be recommending a podcast, watching a YouTube sermon together, or inviting them to a casual dinner with some Christian friends.
The key is to make faith exploration feel natural and unpressured. Some people aren’t ready to step into a church but might be open to discussing life and spirituality in a more relaxed setting. “Come and see,” said Philip. (John 1:46)
6. Follow Up and Stay Open
When you do have faith conversations, check in later. Ask how they felt about it, answer any questions they might have, and most importantly—be patient. People need time to process things.
Also, take time to reflect. Are your five more open to conversations? Have they shown any interest? Adjust your approach based on where they are in their journey and keep praying. “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” (Ephesians 4:2)
7. Stay Consistent and Trust God
Faith-sharing isn’t a one-time event—it’s a journey. Keep being there, keep listening, and keep showing kindness. Even if you don’t see immediate results, trust that God is working behind the scenes.
Sometimes, it takes years before someone is ready to explore faith seriously. The key is to stay faithful in loving them and pointing them towards Jesus, no matter how long it takes. “So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” (1 Corinthians 3:7)
Who Are Your Five?
As we step into 2025, take a moment to ask yourself—who are your five? Who is the Holy Spirit prompting you to reach out to?
Write their names down. Pray for them. Show up for them. And trust that as you do your part, God will do His. Amen.
