#1 Adopting Shopping Centres 4 Jesus with Graham Sercombe

Tina Waldrom speaks with Graham Sercombe, a well-known Aussie evangelist who is Adopting Shopping Centres 4 Jesus. Graham has been working in the field of evangelism for many decades and is convinced that shopping centres are a key space to reach secular Australian for Jesus. He spearheads Life Bridge Community Chaplaincy and is the community pastor at Wynnum Baptist Church in Queensland.

Graham’s passion is to see the church bring salt and light to the world outside the walls of the church building. He loves to gather for worship with Christians, but believes that the church is to be scattered throughout the week. ‘Being’ the church in local communities is his passion. For the past few years, Graham has been present in a number of shopping centres and is seeing a remarkable work of Christ take place. His approach to urban mission, so to speak, has been largely informed by the training from Sports Chaplaincy Australia and an online course from Urban Revs.

The stories that Graham tells are extraordinary. Situated in shopping centres, Graham and his team come across people every week and form relationships that would otherwise never happen. People, over time, feel safe and comfortable to talk to Graham and his team of shopping centre chaplains. Gospel seeds and hope are encountering the lives of everyday Aussie each week, it’s a wonderful story.
