Tina Waldrom speaks with Tracy Lauersen about The Gospel and Family Violence. As it nears Christmas, many are finding life challenging. The Australian government reported that 2.2 million Aussies have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from a partner and 3.6 million Australians have experienced emotional abuse from a partner. The Gospel can bring hope to those experiencing violence. Tracy shares her story of involvement and how Christians can be a light in this space.
Many believers are not aware of the prevalence of family violence, in the broader community and also affecting those in our faith communities. Learning more about the problem is the first step in helping to prevent violence. Tracy is the conveyor of the family violence working group with the Anglican church in Australia. Her journey in this space began with the realisation of the problem following the Royal Commission into family Violence in 2016 . Tracy leads a team that investigated the nature and prevalence of intimate partner violence affecting Australian Anglicans. She talks about the research conducted into this space, the challenging findings and the way the Church is now working to prevent violence.
In this episode, Tracy shares her wisdom and expertise around family violence. She gives a wonderful overview of the issue and how people can respond. She talks openly about the challenge this is for her own faith community and shares some possible responses. The Anglican church of Australia is responding robustly to the issue of family violence. With Tracy’s leadership, they have measures in place, to not only raise awareness but to also respond appropriately. This episode will give people an overview of family violence in Australia and some possible responses as a believer.
